Research Links

The following are some of our most widely used sources of information for economic and demographic data.  Feel free to use these links for your own economic and demographic research.

Federal Demographic Data Sources:  www.fedstats.org

This site serves as a port for most federal data collections.  It includes information on racial, socioeconomic, business and geography matters down to the congressional and/or federal judicial district level.  Use MapStats to get a comparison table of State and County facts.

The U.S. Bureau of the Census:  www.census.gov

This site offers a wealth of information on racial, socioeconomic, business and geography matters.  Some of the most helpful links are State and County Quick Facts, American FactFinder, Industry Quick Reports, the 1997 Economic Census and of course 2000 Census Data.

Economic Data Sources: www.bea.doc.gov

The Bureau of Economic Analysis offers data related to gross domestic product, industry inputs and outputs, international balances of payments, and state and local area economic data.  BEARfacts provides one-page narratives on the personal and per-capita incomes, personal income components and industry earnings down to the county level for a given time period, comparing the data with past findings and current national trends.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics: www.bls.gov

The Bureau of Labor Statistics offers data on employment, worker injuries, consumer prices, industry productivity and other workforce-related matters.

Other Data Sources

The Development Alliance: www.developmentalliance.com

The Development Alliance site, though still under construction offers standardized community profiles derived from census statistics and other sources.  This is a private partnership among the IEDC, the EDA of Canada and Conway Data Inc. (publisher of Site Selection magazine).  The site is useful to site selectors and economic developers alike.
